Ceiling Fan Size Calculator

Fan size follows room area: up to 75 sq ft takes a 29–36 inch fan, 76–144 sq ft a 36–42 inch, 145–225 sq ft a 44–50 inch, and 226–400 sq ft a 50–54 inch. Very large rooms want a 56 inch+ fan — or two smaller fans spaced evenly.

Blades should hang 8–9 feet above the floor: flush-mount on 8 ft ceilings, and add a downrod for anything taller. Compare airflow with the CFM rating, not blade count — three wide blades routinely out-move five narrow ones.
